Somerford International Horse Trials got off to a cracking start under bright blue skies on Friday 18th August.

The four novice sections all performed well cross country, which was attributed to international event rider Andrew Heffernan – his first time designing the novice courses here at Somerford.

Full set of results are available online however the four number one spots went to;

Section C 1st Bill Levett & Mighty Tara
Section D 1st Carlos Parro & Kick on Casanova
Section E 1st Hippolyte Rechard & Diamond Duette
Section F 1st Alex Postolowsky & Grappa Nera

Emma Jones was the winning owner of Section D’s Kick on Casanova. The 6 year old gelding by JRP Casanova Du Domaine Z, was ridden by Brazilian Carlos Parro who has the gelding from a 5 year old.

‘He’s come in the top two of his last three events and we’re extremely pleased with him. He will be aimed at Le Lion at the end of the year or going up to intermediate in the next couple of months’ said a delighted Emma.

Banbury based Izzy Taylor and DHI Jet Set were the first combination to take to the dressage arena in the CIC2** on Friday morning and retained their lead on a score of 39.5 throughout the day and overnight. Just behind them in 2nd position James Avery and Vitali on a score of 40.8 and sitting in 3rd position Emilie Chandler and Denver VI with a score of 42.0.

Meanwhile in the CIC1* Harry Harding and Georgie Girl went into the lead mid way through the days list with a score of 39.9, Somerford based Robyn Gray and Gelukkig sit in 2nd overnight on 43.3 and hot on her heals in 3rd place Arthur Duffort and Firetto on 43.6.

Friday afternoon’s Intermediate were hotly contested across all four sections, full set of results are available online
